This procedure will focus on a hybrid contest. (This description is odd because in a hybrid contest, the timekeepers may be present in person with the Chief Judge. In person, no texting will be necessary. The official timers report will be given to the Chief Judge.
  • There are two Timekeepers.
    • The Official Timekeeper - keeps the official time. Reports timing to Chief Judge.
    • The Timing Light Timekeeper - runs the timing light colors. This Timekeeper will use a stopwatch to ensure the indicator lights are changed on time.
  • Both Timekeepers must have a phone that can send text messages to the Chief Judge.
  • During the contest, the Timekeepers are muted.
  • Timing on screen colors must be solid. The Timing Light Timekeeper must block their computer's camera so their face is not visible.
  • Time starts at the first utterance or gesture that looks like the speech has started.
  • Both Timekeepers should be prepared to run the Zoom Green, Yellow, and Red background just in case the Internet connection is lost on the Timing Light Timekeeper's computer.
  • At the end of all the contest speeches, the Official Timekeeper will send a note to the Chief Judge indicating the times for each contest contestant's speech..
FYI. If a contestant's Internet connection drops during a speech, timing will stop. The speaker will get a chance to complete their speech after reconnecting to the contest. Timers will continue the timing after the speaker is invited to continue their speech by the Toastmaster.

They do not get to give the entire speech again.
